What a fantastic day. It all started in Santiago de Compostela, the finish line of the Santiago pilgrim trail where we awoke at a leisurely pace in our lovely little hotel in the old town. We breakfasted in a magical garden cafe where Katrine did her best to emulate every Disney princess by bonding with the local wildlife, feeding most of her breakfast to the cute birdies and cooing with them to the point of exhaustion. Luckily the breakfast was delicious, especially the local almond cake which I reluctantly shared with Katrine (but mostly the birds).

We continued down the coast to an absolutely gorgeous little town, Viana Do Castelo. I really loved this place it has such a great vibe, architecture and setting. Just lovely.. We splurged by dining at an incredible Michelin recommended seafood restaurant which did not disappoint. I was slightly intimidated by the enormous platter of seafood, lobster, oysters, jumbo prawns and everything in between, including the rather special goose barnacles which are called ‘percebes’ in Portugal… Which also translates to “do you understand”. Must cause some confusion… I’m glad we ordered in English. The meal was delicious all washed down with some Portuguese bubbles, although I may have hit a few of the fellow fingers with seafood shrapnel.

We rounded off the evening with a romantic stroll through the beautiful old town. All the more beautiful for the girl by my side.
