Aviemore’s Old Bridge Inn was our accommodation for the night, and we headed out early for a paddle on Loch Morlich in kayaks. I loved the trusting ducks that would come over and expect a nibble. We drove through Inverness and along Loch Ness, but no sighting of the sea monster, Nessie, today. On our way to Skye we stopped at Eilean Donan castle, which we learned was featured in both the movies Highlander (making it somewhat of a pilgrimage for Terry) and Mio min Mio (Kato’s evil castle). Arriving in Skye, we looked around for the local pub, supposedly called Hackin or K’hackin. I had to smirk when I saw the sign above the pub door: “King Haakon”. There was however very little else to do with the Norwegian king in the pub other than a bastardized pronunciation of his name. Back at our hostel, we spent the rest of the evening by the fireplace in the company of fellow travelers.
