After waking in our sleeper train, we made our way to the Ben Nevis visitor center. The weather has been dodgy and today looked like it the best day for hiking. And so it was, no rain, cold weather or strong wind, and just the right amount of cloudy. The hike up was much more strenuous than I expected. I didn’t think the Scots were up to par with Norwegians when it came to mountains. Since Ben Nevis is the highest peak in the UK, maybe it shouldn’t have come as a surprise that this hike certainly was. After 8 hours of trudging, we drove to Fort Augustus to our hostel. Realizing it was too late for a restaurant or a grocery store, our dinner was a mish mash of naan bread, grapes, red pepper, cereal bar, potato chips and a beer.
