The Lost Valley hike

After picking up a few Scottish souvenirs, we left Fort Augustus and drove to Glen Coe. This was the place where a big massacre happened in the 17th century where the MacDonald clan was killed by the Campbells. Our hotel still has a sign that says: “No hawkers or Campbells”. It is also the hiking capital of Scotland and far more peaceful now, which is why we visited. Terry bought himself a sixpence in a gift shop and we shared a scone and toastie. Although our calves were still killing us, we decided on a hike. A much shorter and less steep hike than Ben Nevis: The Lost Valley. The MacDonalds used to hide (stolen?) cattle in the valley. Terry had a refreshing dip in the river on the way down. I dipped my feet in and couldn’t feel them, so decided against a dip… The evening was spent at the Clachaig inn with a Cailidh band playing traditional Scottish music. Something you cannot experience anywhere else in the world but in Scotland.
