Second day of WHW

Our second day on the West Highland way from Drymen to Rowardennan. We ventured up Conic hill, 361 m, and was rewarded with this splendid view. Luckily, this was our only large ascent today. We had a long stop in Balmaha. It’s amazing how good orange juice and lemonade (at £3.50) can taste just because you’ve been walking a lot that day. Terry became friends with two young boys who had not wanted to do the hard conic hill walk, and convinced them that they had missed out on the unicorns and dragons that live there. After Balmaha, we trudged on. Somehow I was out of energy at kilometer 18. The last 6 km were the longest and we (I, but with a very patient Terry behind me) spent alway too long to complete them while I moaned and groaned. According to Terry we were on the home stretch and only had about 15 minutes to go for a good 2 hours… once we got to the hostel, it looked like a Harry Potter house! I was slightly disappointed that my room was up a flight of stairs though. I almost insisted on being carried up. I wonder what the last days will be like where there will be proper climbs… it did help to chill in the big lounge before bedtime and get all electronics charged.
