West Highland Way – Day 6

Another easy day, despite the rain that couldn’t make up its mind… Eventually, resulting in Katrine hiking through the rain using her backpack cover as an umbrella, rather than stopping to get out her rain jacket for the 20th time.

The landscape opened up with rolling mountains and mostly good paths underfeet for our 19k jaunt. The rolling mists hanging in the valleys and around the mountains reminded me of the classic movie ‘Brigadoon’, which tells the tale of a mystical highland village that appears only once every hundred years, before magically disappearing into the mists again. This prompted a quick Spotify search to add some music from the movie to our playlist and my insistence that we watch said movie upon our return to civilization.

Despite a few climbs we seemed to take the days hiking in our stride(pun intended), surprised at how easy the going was, despite the rain. As we cruised into the Glen Coe mountain resort I had a feeling the next couple of days would be more challenging.

The resort itself was cool, we were in a minicabin and had a light supper before retiring for the evening to prepare for the big hike tomorrow, which would include the infamous ‘Devils Staircase’.
