We returned to the warm embrace of Stavanger and the even warmer hospitality of family and friends.
After a few days of catch up we packed light and headed for the mountains. Not, unfortunately to embark on our 3 week hike of Jotunheimen as due to inclement weather we had to postpone.
Undettered we resigned ourselves to an alternative plan, consisting of the three R’s: Reading, writing and relaxation.
So it was that we kicked back and did just that, with a few noteable exceptions.
We visited Rjuken, home of the heavy water installation, which was the cause of so much concernation for the allies during WWII. We heard of the daring raids embarked upon by the heroes of the hour and we’re impressed by the buildings and installations, Katrine indulging my compulsive need to read everything in the entire place before allowing myself to leave.
Our final day before departing for Stavanger again was spent at a lovely leisure centre resplendent with pools jacuzzi’s and waterslides! I spent way too much time trying to beat the record for the fastest time down the fast waterslide and, despite coming close(10.88 seconds to be precise) had to make do with the concellation prize of an ice cream.
The writing was great, the reading was interesting and informative, the dining and wineing was a treat and the company was, as always, second to none.
