Pearl Harbour and Luahu

Pearl Harbour and Luau

We ate a hearty breakfast at home then caught a bus to Pearl Harbour.

The centre was well done and had a sombre and respectful air about it. It was fascinating to see up close artifacts and tools of war as well as learn more about the mindset, culture and strategies on both sides. We also had the chance to visit USS Arizona, which is regarded as an active graveyard. I was surprised to see oil still being released from the sunken wreckage riding to the surface in dark bubbles. I was told that these are black tears cried for the fallen.

It was important for me to visit this place, given the impact it had on the world at the time with the attack ultimately assuring victory against the axis forces by forcing the US to enter the fray. Better late than never.

We headed back to our hotel. Popping by Walmart to pick up some snorkel gear for Katrine and get ready for our lauau.

After a lengthy bus ride we were greeted with lays and a cocktail and headed into what was essentially a big garden party.

The entertainment and activities were great and the buffet didn’t dissappoint.
