The day was jam-packed with activity. Braving the inclement weather we headed out for brunch at a local cafe, which I selected mainly because I saw half a dozen bodies sitting by the window and because it looked like one of those unassuming gems we’d been lucky enough to stumble across earlier. What I didn’t pay so much attention to was the rather obvious theme of the restaurant, which we soon found out was sea snails… Undeterred we soldiered on and were served a large helping of omelette like egg ‘stuff’ and a stew of vegetable and a large portion of generously sized sea snails. Luckily the owner was able to show us the correct eating method and, although not our favourite, we got through it with some enjoyment, although once was enough we both felt.
Funky Hongdae was our next stop, a very cool area with lots of cool shopping opportunities, street food options, restaurants and bars. Our main reason for visiting was to attend the Santa theatre show… and what a show it was. The concept is a mix of cooking, percussion, martial arts, magic and slapstick… Quite the combination. The performers and the show were absolutely fantastic. Of course, I was on hand to lend my expertise in some audience participation, which was fun. We were very glad we came.
Katrine had located a cat cake which was our next port of call. It was a cafe, there were cats, so she was happy.
After our feline encounter we found a great restaurant/bar where we had some lovely Korean barbecue and sampled Soju for the first time, the local spirit of choice, which was a mellow, vodka like tipple, although not too strong, quite nice. I also took the opportunity to try the local beer which was fine but nothing spectacular. The atmosphere was lively and fun with many locals out for a night on the tiles.
Well watered and fed we sauntered home, happy with our efforts for the day and looking forward to what tomorrow had in store.
