Our last day in Korea and it’s still freezing cold and I still barely have a voice and a sore throat and cough. But we braved the weather and went to Insadong and Ssamzigil market. This market has a lot more traditional products than other markets. You can get a custom made Korean stamp with your name for instance, and there are tea shops and art galleries. Ssamzigil is a four story building with a poop cafe at the top. Yes, you read that correctly: poop, doo doo, feces, excrement. Koreans seem to have a fascination for all things taboo, so drinking coffee out of cups shaped like toilet bowls seem like a great idea. Or eat cakes shaped like turds.
After the market we had Korean bbq at 853, a great little restaurant where they cook the meat in front of you along with plenty little side dishes. A little bit like a Korean tepanyaki. And rinse it down with a little soju, the Korean rice wine. We, of course, had no clue what to do and relied on the neighboring table and our chef to show us how.
Before going back to the hotel to pack, we walked along the river and oo’ed and aah’ed at more of the light features for the lantern festival. When our toes felt like detached rocks in our shoes, we picked up some Korean ginseng at the market and went home.
