Winter dollhouses

Our breakfast at the ryokan was up to par with their dinner. Can’t say I miss bread or cereal.

We made time for a stop at the onsen in the morning too. I tried another one right next door that was even prettier. No pictures allowed naturally, but you can see them here:

Shirikawa-go was next up. A cute village with specially crafted houses with large straw thatched rooftops. They look like they’re taken out of a winter fairytale.

Back in Takayama we just made it before the sake breweries closed. One of them had sake vending machines! Needless to say, we did some shopping.

Dinner was across the street at a sushi bar. We showed up in our yukatas, but we were the only ones… luckily another couple from the hotel showed up in theirs shortly after. The locals probably thought we were a little strange though. And the waitress wasn’t sure I’d be ok with shouchu, Japanese liquor. She suggested mixing it with soda would be better (for women). I had it straight.
