A place we’d both been keen on including our journey through Japan was the city of Hiroshima. We spent a day at the Peace Memorial Park wandering the Museum and walking the grounds of the park. It was a sombre day in comparison to our recent adventures.

I’d always thought of the atomic bombs dropped here and Nagasaki as a necessary evil, which likely saved lives in the long run, but seeing and reading about the devastation and loss of life up close was quite harrowing.

The park itself was located close to ground zero, or the hypocentre of the detonation and was home to various structures and memorials, including The Dome, a building preserved in the condition it was left in just after the bombing and the Peace Flame which is never allowed to go out.

Our evening was spent sampling Hiroshimas famous okonomiyaki in a building dedicated to this culinary delight, there was a bit of queuing, but the food was worth the wait.
