Hiroshima was a must on our list over places to visit in Japan, so today we spent our time walking through the Peace Memorial Park reading about the atrocities of the Second World War and its end in Japan. The park is situated a block away from the hypocenter, and what has become known as the Atomic Dome is preserved the way it looked after the bomb in 1945. There is an eternal flame burning at the center of the park, and a memorial to those who died crying for water after the bomb hit. They estimate about 140000 people died in Hiroshima on the day of the bomb, with many more following in the days, weeks, and years after.
