We got up and made breakfast at our hostel before venturing out to explore Fort Augustus, a place I’d been keen to show Katrine after it had made such a positive impression on me during my last visit when I sailed through it on the Caledonian Canal.
There is a charm and quaintness about this place despite the abundance of tourism which is hard to resist.

The highlight of the day was the most amazing scone and clotted cream ever in a lovely little coffee shop (we’re starting to become connoisseurs of this particular Scottish delicacy… we’ll, I am at any rate). Afterwards, we browsed the gift shops and watched some boats traverse the lock system. An impressive engineering feat, initially meant to ferry trade from coast to coast, but now serving the leasure and tourism industry.

Returning to our hostel we ended the night with a whisky and trivial pursuitĀ before turning in.
