No hiking today. Charging our batteries for the West Highland Way starting tomorrow. Went shopping in Fort William at Aldi, M&S, and a price bargain shop and had great fun. Topped it off with a large (and I mean LARGE) cup of coffee and chai latte at Costa coffee. The cup had TWO handles! We made use of their free and good wifi and power while we were there, until they quite friendly asked us to bugger off. We went back to our hostel which has quite an extensive wildlife. Dead lizard and rat turd in the bathroom and mice in the hallway. And the “well equipped” kitchen turned our sunny side ups into scrambled eggs (picture evidence provided). A lesson from the materials science engineer to not scratch or inappropriately temper your poor Teflon pans. Tomorrow’s accommodation will be a step up no matter what. But we did meet some lovely people here! My room mates were so sweet. The host was friendly but also a nut job. Oh, and somehow a huge 6-inch kitchen knife from the hostel ended up in my food bag… so I inadvertently turned into a thief. Wish I’d nicked something better (the knife wasn’t even sharp) if I’d known I was going to be guilty regardless.
