Closer to the highlands

We left a rather rude and curt hobbit hut manager in the morning who apparently meant that checking out meant exiting the entire premises. We were told with a menacing stare that sitting on the bench outside after leaving our keys was not acceptable. In the shop along the way I found a rare haggis specimen with the story explaining its nature: The wild haggis is an unbalanced beast whose legs of unequal length enable it to lope up steep Scottish hillsides with ease. They left out the part about the females, who can fly, but other than that it’s been verified by Terry to be completely true. After a surprisingly short trek we arrived at the Bridge of Orchy train station. Our accommodation for the night. An actual functioning operating railway station with beds and all. Pretty funky. It made up a tiny bit for the fact that we couldn’t do the Jacobite train trip (the Harry Potter train!) because it was discontinued this summer over safety concerns. I guess they also saw that scene with the Dementor attack… The dinner at the Bridge of Orchy hotel was great (the first place that had salads without anything fried added) and it set us back as much as the accommodation. But proper food and drink is always in order after a hike.
