Our first flight on Hawaiian airlines and we were amused by their miniature sized tray tables. Landing in Kona, it was obvious that this island is not as commercial as Oahu. We walked from the plane into the airport. Or into? It wasn’t an indoor building. It was a structure but everything was still outside and open. It must be the first “outdoor” airport I’ve been to. We picked up our Dodge Challenger (but black, not yellow like in the picture). We had to drive a detour because the Ironman in Kona was on today and the roads were filled with running women. Apparently Kona had been turned upside down because of this event. We checked in at the Holua Resort and got a huuuge apartment. Big change from the studio in Waikiki. A quick stop at Safeway to pick up some groceries for breakfast and the drive tomorrow. But what? What has happened to the grocery prices in usa? Especially here in Hawaii it’s ridiculous! Cereal boxes for $10, half gallon of milk for $5, bread for $8, sensodyne toothpaste for $10, and don’t get me started on the fruit and veg. Before tax! I’ve found myself squeezing the last bit of toothpaste from the tube to avoid buying new toothpaste. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen a loaf of bread that expensive at home. How do they survive here? Hawaii is more expensive because they have to import a lot. I will never complain about the prices at home again.
Kona, more Hawaii
