Mahalo Hawai’i

Our last day on the Big Island had arrived. Yes, it is called “the big island”. What it’s really called? Hawai’i. But that’s what the state is called. Yes. See the confusion? That’s why everyone calls it the Big Island. Because it’s the biggest of the Hawaiian islands. Logical.

As the song goes: “You can check-out any time you like but you can never leave!” Well, in our case, we could leave but we never wanted to. So we stayed the rest of the day. Straight to the pool, then went on a canoe ride in the bay with the Hui Holokai, the ocean and beach ambassadors at the hotel. We borrowed some snorkel gear, but the water was still not great. We did see a lot of fish but no turtles today. After lounging about at the beach and the pool it was time for our complimentary cocktails at the tiki bar. Unfortunately, Terry picked the better one this time. The hot tub was next. Mostly just to check it off our list because we were already very warm. We ended up staying for quite a while because we met a guy from Maui and discussed Hawaiian vs. American vs. Norwegian culture and norms. Very interesting. So much so that it made us late for happy hour at the next bar! By then, it was time to think about actually leaving. We got our bags and waited for the bus. And waited. And waited. And ordered an Uber. Kona airport is so funky. It’s outdoors! Our gate had palm trees and a starlit sky above it! It was so sad to say goodbye to Hawaii. I hope it won’t be long until next time.
