We both got a surprisingly good night’s sleep and enjoyed a fabulous traditional breakfast in our JP PJ’s before embarking on a day-trip to the picturesque village of Shirikawa-go.

The snow helped to give the whole place an enchanting, fairytale feeling. We explored the unusual buildings and sampled dome local treats before bussing it back to Takayama.

We visited a street full of brewery’s, tasting a ridiculous amount of sake in the pursuit of finding ‘the one’. In truth there were many, too many, great tasting sake to choose from. It was fun paying for a wee cup and basically being able to drink your fill of the sake on offer for next to no money. at each of the brewery’s.. At the end of our experience we bought a couple of our favourites and some yuzu for the missus.

We ate in a Sushi restaurant across the street and met a fun american couple. The sushi was okay, but the sake was great.

We ended the night in the onsen, which we both thought was amazing and crashed after another busy day and many more to come.
