Our lovely guest house in Elgin provided us with a great breakfast that even included some color and non-fried items, a rarity in Scotland. Our trip went on to the Culloden battlefield where the Jacobites (remember Jamie from Outlander? That side) suffered a brutal and massive defeat by the British government (the mean guys in red coats). In addition to the Jacobites now not being able to claim the throne, much of Highlander culture and customs were forbidden in the time after the battle and were poorly treated by the government leading to poverty and starvation among the Scottish people. We still had a rather entertaining 15 minutes in the middle of all the tragedy: Terry volunteered to be dressed up in a traditional kilt in front of an audience. A bit of overacting was of course in its place. After Culloden, we drove on to Aviemore and got onboard the Strathspey steam railway. Yet another steam locomotive adventure. This time with afternoon tea and prosecco.
